Spreading the word about human trafficking, modern slavery, and youth engagement.

Press Release

Global Youth-led Anti-Human Trafficking Movement Launching on World Day Against Trafficking July 30th 2021

What:  A group of youth leaders  from more than two dozen countries to launch the Youth Against Slavery Movement (YAS Movement).

For the nearly 200 million people who are trapped in human trafficking and modern-day slavery practices, the Youth Against Slavery Movement (“YASM”) is a US-based 501c(3) nonprofit organization that engages, empowers, and inspires the next generation of leaders through capacity building and providing space for collaboration. Unlike many mainstream organizations working in these spaces, our program provides the skills, tools, platforms, and resources so that youth specifically are positioned to create global and local impact.

The Youth Against Slavery Movement is a youth-led, youth-centered, anti-slavery nongovernmental organization headquartered in New York City, USA, with continental hubs around the world. The first hub will be established in Africa in 2021. We follow a ‘GLOCAL’ model of engaging local communities to counter these global issues.

Our pillars of work focus solely on the two (2) Ps in a two-tiered approach of Partnerships and Prevention to tackle human trafficking (“HT”) and modern slavery (“MS”) globally as levers of development. Youth activities include raising awareness and providing education regarding HT and MS through focusing on root causes under the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). YASM will  create the space for youth to become meaningfully engaged, and sit on the decision making table to represent their constituencies and work within an intersectional, intersectoral, multi stakeholder and intergenerational capacity.

YASM’s diverse team includes youth and adolescent leaders, activists, students and professionals from all over the world who want to help end modern slavery and human-trafficking. With the exception of our Advisory Board, all of our team members are under 35. We believe everyone has the power to change the world. Our organizational ethos includes a horizontal structure with co-leaders working collaboratively to fulfill YASM’s mission. Our goal is to foster an inclusive and creative space for youth to come together and create the tools to action against human-trafficking and modern slavery.

When: July 30 – World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

Where: Online on our social media @yasmovement

With your support and visibility, we hope to engage the local communities around the world  to come together and unite in supporting our movement. We aspire to engage youth locally to serve globally and  become leaders with us.
